10 and 12 hours every night is the ideal time for the 3 to 5 years child to sleep. And in this stage the bed time and sleeping routine will be very much similar to them
The child will fall asleep or feel sleepy at the routine time they used to sleep. It is advisable to lay them on the bed as soon as the child feels sleepy
And at this stage the usually most of the child suffer from night terrors and nightmares. If it is nightmares the child may remember it but if it is night terror then the child will not remember
The difference is that, if it is night mare then the child will be restless in bed and will fall sleep soon. If it is night terror then the child will be so scared that they will scream to their maximum and some may get up from the bed and wander. When you see your child behaving like this you may immediately go and try to speak to with the child but the child will not communicate to you because the child is actually sleeping and not awake. And hence the child will soon go back to bed to sleep and also the child will not remember anything in the morning if you ask
In this time of night terror you child needs comfort that you are with him or her. So lay behind your child and rub your child’s back softly and allow the child to sleep comfortably
And if it nightmare, the child may wake up and start crying and May also sometime look around and see. In this stage the child needs your security and comfort. So in this point of time it is your duty to go to the child’s room and sit or lay down near your child to give comfort to the child. Also speak to your child very softly as well as rub your child's back gently
Remember that you never ask about the dream what the child had because they will be in half sleep and not fully awake, so they will go to bet very soon. It is enough that you sit quietly or silently lay down near them
